How high should I hang my chandelier over my table?
The height at which you should hang your chandelier over your table depends on the size and height of both the chandelier and the table. Here is a general guideline to follow:
The chandelier should hang approximately 30 to 36 inches above the surface of the table.
The size of the chandelier should be proportional to the size of the table. A general rule of thumb is that the chandelier should have a diameter that is about 6” less than the width of the table, and never wider than the table itself.
If you have a high ceiling, you may need to hang the chandelier higher to avoid it appearing too low. In this case, you can add 3 inches to the height for every additional foot of ceiling height above 8 feet high.
Consider the size of the room as well. If the room is small, a large chandelier may overwhelm the space. In this case, a smaller chandelier or pendant light may be more appropriate.
Make sure that the chandelier is centered over the table, both horizontally and vertically. Often times it is best to have your electrician change the location of a previous light rather than trying to drape the chandelier to the correct position with a hook.
It is important to note that these are general guidelines, and you should always take into account the specific dimensions and layout of your room when determining the appropriate height to hang your chandelier.
